Counseling that gets autoimmune, inflammatory, & dysautonomic conditions

Your condition(s) may be invisible, but its impact shows up in every corner of your life

Your diagnosis isn’t your whole story, but it shapes the pace, your mood, your relationship dynamics, and what’s possible every day.

Going about life while navigating flares, fatigue, brain fog and the uncertainty of it all drains more than just your energy — it can shake your whole sense of self. Maybe you’re:

…feeling caught in endless cycles of flare-ups that knock you down, then leave you scrambling to get ahead of the next one.

…torn between what your body needs and what you feel you should be doing. Whether you’re pushing hard at work, or picking up every task at home, you’re doing more than you probably should to feel like you’re still ‘pulling your weight’.

…worried about the impact on your relationship. You feel guilt creep in every time your partner does something for you that they didn’t previously have to, and your sex life and sex drive don’t feel the same as before.

How therapy that gets what you’re experiencing can help

Even if you have the relief of finally securing a diagnosis, you know the journey ahead won’t be smooth sailing, and having the right support can make all the difference.

Therapy can be the place where you can name how relentless it is to live in a body that’s so unpredictable. A place that truly understands why you’re pushing so hard between flares, why new treatments may terrify you after previous allergic reactions, and the hopelessness if treatment options are running out.

Because I’ve worked in close contact with PTs and other medical professionals for years, I’m well-versed in these conditions. This isn’t therapy that needs a crash course in what EDS or POTS or infusion fatigue is.

We’ll look gently and honestly at how your chronic condition is shaping your relationship to work, self-worth, identity, intimacy, and how your nervous system is doing in the midsts of it.

Together, we’ll hold space for all of it; the frustration when you do all the ‘right’ things and still having a flare, the worry of the impact on your relationship of your partner having to step in to support you, or the pangs of guilt if you see your child showing some of the same traits.

This is about having someone in your corner who sees the whole picture, and can resource you with tools to steady you through life’s unpredictable rhythms.

Frequently-Asked Questions

  • Absolutely! While your health might shape a lot of your daily experience, therapy is a place for all of you. Nothing is off-limits.

As a certified sex therapist and licensed marriage and family therapist, I’m trained to look at the whole picture — your body, your relationships, your identity, your stressors, your past, and the worlds you’re navigating.

So you certainly don’t need to split your care between different therapists for different parts of your life. If it’s on your mind, it belongs here.

  • I do not accept insurance. Insurance companies only cover mental health services that are medically necessary, but they don’t allow therapists to list chronic pain, sex-related issues, or relationship distress as acceptable diagnoses.

Insurance companies also regularly audit files, requesting clinical notes, assessments, and other documentation that may prove therapy sessions are medically necessary. There is always a risk that after initially approving and paying for sessions, the insurance company may decide to audit a client’s file and determine the treatment wasn’t medically necessary and demand payments be returned. Leaving the client to pay the balance in full.

Though clients and doctors would argue therapy sessions are medically necessary, insurance companies disagree or believe clients should be “fixed” after a limited number of sessions. This model no longer reflects modern therapy practices. I would rather my clients determine what therapy looks like than insurance companies.
